I began my career as a graphic designer and layout artist in South Africa in 1999. In 2011, my family and I immigrated to Australia and became Australian citizens. Over the past 25 years, I have built a career in the marketing and advertising industry, specialising in branding, design, digital marketing, social media management, and communications.
My career has been anything but dull. I love pixel-perfect designs and enjoy creating modern and trendy visuals. I am a problem solver who constantly seeks the best solutions. I strive to improve my skills in creative technology, digital marketing, and media communication.
Throughout the years, I have received a lot of valuable advice, but one piece that has always resonated with me is to "always create room to explore." Keeping our schedules flexible allows us to take advantage of opportunities to learn and experience new things. Although this can be challenging at times, I make a conscious effort to allow for exploration.
I don’t limit myself to topics strictly related to my industry; stepping outside my comfort zone gives me new perspectives. This approach helps me think outside the box and fosters the development of new ideas and solutions that I might not have considered otherwise.
Finding balance in life can be challenging, but it is essential for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. We all need to balance work, play, relaxation, and sleep. As a family, we function as a team, communicating to ensure that everyone contributes to maintaining this balance. Even small changes to our routine can make a significant difference. There are no right or wrong choices, and our preferences may shift during different stages of our family's life.
Coco Chanel inspires me. Born Gabrielle "Coco" Bonheur Chanel, she founded the iconic Chanel brand. I admire how she brought liberation to women through fashion. Although sometimes controversial, her long-lasting influence on style and the women's movement is undeniable. She was an early example of a successful businesswoman who paved the way for many who followed her. Who hasn’t heard of her signature scent, Chanel No. 5?
Finally, there are days when I feel discouraged. During those moments, I turn to a bit of lipstick and fragrance to help boost my confidence. Coco Chanel once said, "The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud."
